Federalloy® alloys are a series of lead-free copper alloys invented
by A.R. Singh, chief metallurgist and vice president at the Federal Metals Company,
Bedford, Ohio. The Federal Metal Company replaces lead with bismuth and offers an
alloy with superior pressure tightness and comparable machinability characteristics
to leaded brass and bronze alloys. The solution is not only effective but so unique
that The Federal Metal Company has received several U.S. patents and has applied
for others in many countries around the world.
Since 1993, Concast has produced millions of pounds of Federalloy®
and has had great commercial success doing so. Currently, Concast is the only foundry
licensed to produce the Federalloy® group of alloys.
Benefits of Federalloy®
Good machinability
The unique Federalloy® technology enables production engineers to
tailor any Federalloy alloy to their own requirements
Good polishing and plating characteristics
Better castability at lower temperatures, resulting in lower costs to end users
Assures that elongation, a key benchmark for ductility, approximates its leaded
alloy counterparts
“No burn-in” feature enables Federalloy® castings to
have more definition which results in crisper markings and more legible identification
numbers
Superior microstructural characteristics
Improved finish requires less shot blast, reducing cleaning costs and shortening
cycle times
